Acknowledging the Territory

As Christian people within the United Church of Canada, we acknowledge that the earth belongs to God and everything upon it and within it.

As we gather to worship God, we acknowledge that we meet on the treaty and traditional lands of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island.   These lands are covered under the Williams Treaties, they are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, and remain home to a number of Indigenous nations and people.

We commit to the responsibility of reconciliation and the work of increasing awareness and understanding of our shared history.   May we continue to live with respect on this land and live in peace and friendship with its peoples.
