The Outreach Committee coordinates, supports and promotes Kingsview’s outreach activities at a local, national, and international level. This committee selects and arranges projects to be sponsored by the congregation and is responsible for raising funds and obtaining human resources to support these ongoing projects.
The following initiatives are just a few of the amazing programs that Kingsview members participate in. Currently, Kingsview supports several programs in Oshawa. St. Vincent’s Kitchen is provided with helpers once a month to prepare and serve a meal. Kingsview provides volunteers that help at the Backdoor Mission at Simcoe Street United Church, as well as regularly sending clothing and food for this important work. Yearly, a walkathon is held and proceeds are given to a deserving local charity. This year funds went to Grandview Children’s Centre and last year Habitat for Humanity’s work in Oshawa was also supported. Kingsview members are encouraged to continually support Gate 3:16 by donating clothing items. Hearth Place and The Refuge have also been supported in the recent past. Occasionally, the congregation is asked to help by providing sandwiches and sweets for local events.
Beyond Oshawa, Kingsview has taken part in fundraising for Canada Foodgrains and this year, may also be taking on a new project called Shelterbox. In the fall of each year, the congregation takes part in the Samaritan’s Purse shoebox campaign by filling shoeboxes with new small gifts that are sent to faraway lands to children who do not receive Christmas gifts. A group of Kingsview people usually drive to Kitchener each year to help sort and pack these shoeboxes before they leave Canada.
The committee meets once a month to plan and initiate programs.
